Energy use in the higher and further education sector amounts to around £200 million a year and is responsible for the release of around four million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) a year.

The University has a solar PV (Photovoltaic) system installed on the roof that generates clean electricity for use in the building.

Every KWh of electricity produced by the solar panels on the roof of buildings prevents 568 grams of CO2 (carbon dioxide) from entering our atmosphere. ( Source UEL )

This CO2 is saved by not using electricity from power stations which fossil fuel & release CO2.

In 2010/11, UEL emitted approximately 8090 tonnes of CO2 (Scope 1 and 2 emissions). The burning of fossil fuels to produce this energy leads to CO2 emissions, the main greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change. ( Source UEL)
